How do we make this happen?

Plan

The project management structure is kept relatively simple considering the size and ambition of the project.

The different boards that are required for the implementation of the project are the same that the foundation needs for its operation. Naturally, they serve both purposes to give the foundation a flying start.

Work package WP1 – Management of the project

(Leader: INCLIVA) Duration: M1-M48

WP 1 assures progress and financial management of AIDA, communication between the partners and reporting. It contains communication and dissemination to external stakeholders, patients and society at large. This WP includes the following tasks:

Task 1.1. General project management

Task 1.2. Approve ethics and other relevant requirements, including data management plan

Task 1.3. Coordinate CRF implementation at the different sites

Task 1.4. Manage and monitor inclusivity and gender

Task 1.5. Manage clinical studies

Work package WP2 – Optimised H. pylori management

(Leader: FIBHUP) Duration: M1-M48

The main objectives of WP2 include to provide H. pylori patients’ baseline characteristics, diagnostics’ methods, bacterial resistance rates to the different treatments prescriptions, as well as treatment outcomes in the different contexts of the registry (geographic, specific populations, specific interventions, etc.) in order to contribute to the development of the state-of-the-art App, the AI-powered expert system, AIDA. WP2 includes the following tasks:

Task 2.1. Prepare and harmonise the data registry

Task 2.2. Systematic and periodical data analysis and synthesis of the Information

Task 2.3. Data set preparation

Task 2.4. Create a validation cohort to test the AI-driven best practices

Work package WP3 – Validated AI for endoscopy/pathology imaging studies

(Leader: IPO Porto) Duration: M1-M48

The main aims of WP3 are to develop and validate diagnostic algorithms for detecting and characterising high-risk lesions in gastric mucosa, both for endoscopy recordings (images/videos) and pathology (digital whole slide images – WSI) using derivation and validation cohort. WP3 includes the following tasks:

Task 3.1. Define data requirements and harmonisation in endoscopy and pathology

Task 3.2. Create the technological structure to pool endoscopy and pathology data

Task 3.3. Collect and validation of endoscopy data

Task 3.4. Build the AI-based endoscopy model for the target macroscopic lesions

Task 3.5. Collect and validate pathology data

Task 3.6. Build the AI-based pathology model for the microscopic target lesions

Work package WP4 – Validated AI for biomarkers and molecular phenotyping

(Leader: INCLIVA) Duration: M6-M48

WP4 aims to characterise patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal metaplasia (GIM) through cases-control sets using a multi-omics strategy, including the immune, molecular, and microbiome profiling to provide knowledge on the biological features related with gastric chronic inflammation; and to identify biological characteristics that could improve precision diagnosis for the risk groups of patients diagnosed with GIM beyond the pathological characteristics. WP4 includes the following tasks:

Task 4.1. Develop data sets for biomarker characterisation

Task 4.2. Immune characterisation of patients with gastrointestinal metaplasia (GIM)

Task 4.3. Microbiome characterisation

Task 4.4. H. pylori subtypes characterisation

Task 4.5. Molecular characterisation of patients with GIM

Work package WP5 – Advanced AI analytics, personalised risk factor and apps

(Leader: Imperial) Duration: M4-M48

WP5 develops explainable and network-driven AI workflows for personalised risk stratification, biomarker discovery and H. pylori eradication therapy selection using multi-source clinical, imaging and omics data. WP5 includes the following tasks:

Task 5.1. Create AI reinforcement learning H. pylori management

Task 5.2. Design and validate explainable AI for endoscopy and pathology data

Task 5.3. Design and validate graph neural networks for multi-omics

Task 5.4. Develop data/model integrators

Work package WP6 – Data collaborative foundation, governance and architecture

(Leader: Stratejai) Duration: M1-M48

The objective of WP6 is to develop a data governance structure that enables access to data to all stakeholders while minimising negative impact. This includes designing a shared data governance model that increases trust and demonstrates trustworthiness with how data is collected, shared, and used. WP6 includes the following tasks:

Task 6.1. Establish the foundation and define governance

Task 6.2. Design architecture

Task 6.3. Data ingestion pipeline—Back end

Task 6.4. Front end (dashboards and analytics)

Task 6.5. Develop the technological component of the use cases

Task 6.6. Harmonise with European Data Spaces, FAIR and ALTAI principles

Work package WP7 – Communication, dissemination, education and exploitation

(Leader: DiCE) Duration: M1-M48

The main goal of WP7 is to disseminate the results of the AIDA project through a diverse range of communications tools (AIDA app and dashboards, website, social media channels, educational programmes), aimed at the expert audiences (e.g., clinicians and researchers), patients and citizens at risk of developing gastric cancer, and the general public. It also targets external stakeholders in the field of gastric inflammation management and prevention in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the foundation. WP7 includes the following tasks:

Task 7.1. Conduct impact assessment and cost-benefit analysis with stakeholders

Task 7.2. Run awareness campaigns and educational programmes

Task 7.3. Validate business cases for economic sustainability

Work package WP8 – Ethics requirements

(Leader: INCLIVA) Duration: M1-M48

The objective of WP8 is to ensure compliance with the ‘ethics requirements’ set out in this work package. This work package sets out the ‘ethics requirements’ that the project must comply with.
